What is the best time of year to visit Wadi Shab?

The cooler months from October to March are the best time to visit.

During this period, the temperatures are much lower. Extreme summer heat makes the 45 to 60-minute hike to the pools difficult and potentially dangerous.

What is the best time of day to go to Wadi Shab?

Arrive at the trailhead by 8:00 AM.

Getting there early helps you beat the tour bus crowds. It also means you hike the open canyon sections before the intense afternoon heat sets in.

There is a lethal flash flood risk in the canyon. Never enter the wadi if rain is forecast. Always check local weather reports before driving from Muscat.

What time does Wadi Shab close?

You should start your return hike early enough to catch the boat before 5:00 PM.

The site is open year-round, but you rely on the shuttle boat. The boat usually stops running between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

Many tours visit Bimmah Sinkhole on the way back to Muscat from Wadi Shab. It is a 30-40 km drive north. Visiting in the afternoon provides a refreshing swim after your hike.
